Gals Agro exported biomethane for the first time

Gals Agro Holding has joined the ranks of Ukrainian biomethane exporters, with its subsidiary, Horodyshche-Pustovarivska Agro Company (HOPAK), completing its first export on Tuesday, June 24, according to ExPro's market sources. Gals Agro becomes the third biomethane exporter from Ukraine, following Vitagro and MHP.

Export details

According to ExPro, the company exported nearly 73 tcm of domestically produced biomethane stored in Ukrainian underground gas storage (UGS) facilities. The gas was transmitted via Ukraine’s gas transmission system to Hungary, with the German company Uniper as the buyer.

Gals Agro launched its first industrial-scale biomethane production in 2023 at the Lynovytsia biogas plant. In November 2024, the company began injecting biomethane into Ukraine’s UGS facility in preparation for future exports.

As a reminder, Vitagro conducted Ukraine’s first biomethane export on February 7, followed by MHP on February 11. Another MHP Group company launched exports of liquefied biomethane (bio-LNG) in May. Ukrainian companies have already exported around 835 tcm of gaseous biomethane to Europe

European Database (UDB)

First Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Yurii Sheiko and Deputy Minister Mykola Kolisnyk discussed the integration of Ukraine’s gas transmission system (GTS) into the European Database (UDB) with the delegation of the EU Delegation to Ukraine, led by Trade Counsellor Anne Bercio. This integration aims to expand the presence of Ukrainian producers on the EU biomethane market.

The Ministry of Energy is finalizing a package of supporting documents regarding biomethane export transactions that have already taken place. According to the Ministry, these materials will serve as the basis for the final assessment of Ukraine’s readiness to report within the UDB framework.

The European Database (UDB) is one of the key tools for ensuring transparency and traceability of renewable gas circulation in the EU.
