Ukraine's First Long-Term Electricity Auctions: Energoatom and Ukrhydroenergo Sell Entire Volumes

State-owned power producers Energoatom and Ukrhydroenergo have completed Ukraine's first exchange-based electricity auctions under the new long-term contracting mechanism. In the auctions for electricity delivery in August–September 2026, both companies sold their entire offered volumes.

According to the Ukrainian Energy Exchange (UEEX), a total of 42 companies were admitted to participate in the auctions.

Energoatom

Energoatom offered 55 MW of baseload capacity (40 MW and 15 MW products), with a total of 80,500 MWh of electricity contracted.

The auction started at UAH 4,700/MWh, but competitive bidding drove prices higher, with clearing prices ranging from UAH 4,891/MWh to UAH 5,024/MWh, depending on the product.

The main buyers were electricity traders, including Energy Company of Ukraine (ECU) and D.Trading.

Ukrhydroenergo

Ukrhydroenergo offered 8 MW of baseload capacity and also sold the full volume available.

Unlike the Energoatom auction, the bidding concluded without any increase from the starting price. The electricity was sold at UAH 4,700/MWh.

Further details and analysis of the auctions will be available in ExPro Electricity, the analytical publication available to subscribers.

A New Stage for Ukraine's Electricity Exchange Market

The first long-term auctions mark the launch of a new exchange trading mechanism in Ukraine's electricity market.

At present, generators are offering electricity with delivery approximately two months ahead, but products with longer delivery periods are expected to be introduced in the near future.

If held on a regular basis, these auctions could establish a long-term electricity price benchmark for the Ukrainian market, providing participants with a more stable pricing reference and reducing reliance on the more volatile spot market segments.
