MHP becomes the first Ukrainian company to export bio-LNG

Vinnytska Ptakhofabryka LLC, a part of the international food and agri-tech group MHP, has completed the first-ever export of liquefied biomethane (bio-LNG) in Ukraine’s history. This was reported in the ExPro Daily Gas issue on May 8, and later confirmed by MHP’s press service and the Energy Customs Office.

This operation marks the first export of bio-LNG produced in Ukraine. According to the company, the bio-LNG is made entirely from poultry manure and other agricultural waste. The product is certified under the ISCC EU standard and fully complies with the sustainability criteria of the RED II/III framework.

“The launch of bio-LNG exports confirms MHP’s leadership in bioenergy and innovation. Innovation, sustainability, and ambitious projects are part of our DNA. We are turning poultry waste into climate-positive fuel that can power trucks and ships across Europe today,” said Adomas Audickas, Deputy CEO of MHP Group responsible for bioenergy development.

Details of the bio-LNG Export

According to ExPro, MHP exported nearly 18,700 tons of bio-LNG, with a methane content of at least 95%. The biomethane was exported to Germany, where the buyer was Vitol. The transport of bio-LNG is carried out using road tankers.

"Customs clearance was conducted using the simplified EU-Ukraine common transit procedure under NCTS Phase 5, significantly easing the export process. This approach allows goods to move across multiple countries using a single transit document without intermediate customs checks, saving time and optimizing workflows," the Energy Customs Office noted.

MHP transported the biomethane via pipelines across the Ukrainian-Polish border to Germany, where the buyer was also Vitol.

Meanwhile, Vitagro Energy LLC, a subsidiary of the Vitagro agricultural holding, conducted the first-ever Ukrainian biomethane export on February 7, exporting 67.5 tcm of biomethane to Germany via Slovakia. The buyer in this case was ERU Europe.
