Naftogaz to supply U.S. LNG via Klaipeda terminal

Naftogaz Group, in cooperation with Lithuania’s state-owned energy holding Ignitis Group, has secured the supply of 90 mcm of U.S. LNG. The delivery will be carried out via the LNG terminal in Klaipeda (Lithuania), while Naftogaz will independently arrange transportation of the gas to Ukraine. The company’s press service reports accordingly.

Gas deliveries to Ukraine will take place in February and March 2026.

“In the current conditions, when russia is attacking our energy and gas infrastructure almost daily, it is extremely important to diversify supply routes and strengthen energy security. This is essential to guarantee stable gas supply for consumers under any circumstances,” said First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.

“The LNG terminal in Klaipeda is one of the most actively utilized in Europe; through it we can contribute to reliable gas supplies and strengthen the energy security of our partners in Ukraine. We have found ways to use the existing infrastructure more efficiently and provide real support to people in Ukraine as quickly as possible. We aim to build on our experience of LNG supplies via the Lithuanian terminal ‘Independence’ and turn it into a stable, long-term LNG supply option through the regional route initiated by us — the ‘Amber Gas Corridor’,” noted Minister of Energy Žygimantas Vaičiūnas.

Naftogaz notes that supplies via the Klaipeda terminal complement existing LNG import routes and enhance the resilience of Ukraine’s gas supply by reducing dependence on specific directions and increasing system flexibility.

“This is another step in diversifying gas supply routes for Ukraine. We are consistently expanding cooperation with European partners to ensure reliable and flexible resource deliveries amid the war and systematic russian attacks on energy infrastructure. This is necessary to ensure stability both during the current and the next heating season,” said CEO of Naftogaz of Ukraine Sergii Koretskyi.

Naftogaz continues to work with international partners to attract additional gas volumes to ensure stable heating seasons and strengthen the country’s energy security.

Earlier, Naftogaz imported LNG for the first time via the German terminal Deutsche ReGas in cooperation with TotalEnergies. In addition, the first U.S. LNG delivery via Greece in cooperation with Atlantic See LNG Trade is expected in March, with a volume of about 75 mcm. The company has also already received its first U.S. LNG tanker this year via Poland in cooperation with Orlen.
