Orlen delivered the first LNG cargo to Naftogaz this year
Naftogaz of Ukraine, in partnership with Poland’s Orlen, has secured the delivery of the first cargo of U.S. LNG to Ukraine in 2026, according to Naftogaz’s press service.
Details
The cargo volume amounts to almost 100 mcm. The LNG tanker was en route for 20 days and arrived at the Świnoujście LNG Terminal in late January. After regasification, the resource is already available for Ukraine’s needs.
“Additional gas volumes are critically important during periods of extreme frost and Russia’s terrorist attacks on energy infrastructure. We are working systematically with international partners to ensure Ukraine has sufficient resources to pass the winter stably,” said the head of the management board of Naftogaz of Ukraine, Sergii Koretskyi.
According to Koretskyi, subsequent cargoes of U.S. LNG have already been contracted and will be delivered to Ukraine in February-March 2026.
Plans for 2026
Overall, Naftogaz expects LNG supplies from the U.S. to Ukraine in 2026 to reach up to 1 bcm.
As ExPro previously reported, Naftogaz and Orlen agreed in November on the supply of 300 mcm of U.S. LNG via Poland in Q1 2026. Importantly, the partners, together with Poland’s export credit agency KUKE, provided Naftogaz with credit support to enable post-payment for these volumes.
In addition, the state company is receiving U.S. LNG via the Trans-Balkan route from Greece. The first delivery, of up to 100 mcm, is expected in March under a contract with the Greek Atlantic See LNG Trade.
