UGV introduces a new exploration technology in Ukraine – petroleum basin analysis

Ukrgasvydobuvannya JSC is starting application of a new technology for basin analysis and modelling of petroleum plays for the search and exploration of hydrocarbons, the press service reports.

Based on the analysis of spatial dynamic 4D models of hydrocarbon plays, the company will predict risks, projects economics and make decisions on production plans, in particular, new wells drilling.

Ukrgasvydobuvannya plans to use Basin Analysis to assess the oil and gas prospects of Black Sea, search for hydrocarbons in the Carpathian folded belt, and study the licence areas in the Dnieper-Donets Basin.

"Basin modelling is another step towards reducing the risks, first of all, drilling. Due to this technology, we will be able to improve the accuracy of risk assessment both for individual prospects and for large geological structures to increase the resource base and production of Naftogaz," said Oleksandr Romanyuk, Director of the Naftogaz Exploration and Production Division.
