The government has banned the export of Ukrainian coal

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has banned the export of all coal of Ukrainian origin, setting zero quotas.

This was announced by the government's representative in the Verkhovna Rada, Taras Melnychuk, in the Telegram channel.

"Changes have been made to the quotas for goods, which export is subject to licensing, approved by the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 1424 dated 29.12.2021, in terms of a complete ban on the export of Ukrainian-origin coal, code UCGFEA 2701," Melnychuk reports.

These restrictions will apply to all Ukrainian coal, including coking coal for metallurgy.

ExPro reference, UCGFEA code 2701 covers black coal, anthracite, briquettes, pellets, and similar solid fuels produced from black coal, as well as coking coal.

As previously reported by Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denis Shmyhal, over 2 million tons of coal have already been accumulated in the TPP and CHP warehouses.

As the Ministry of Energy noted, this decision was made to ensure proper preparation and passage of the heating season, in particular, the accumulation of sufficient fuel reserves for thermal generation.

"State standards allow using coking coal as part of fuel mixtures for TPPs, CHPPs and boiler houses. Thus, coking coal can be considered a component of the fuel balance for thermal generation in preparation for 2022/2023 fall-winter," the Ministry of Energy pointed out.
