Energoatom Supervisory Board selects winners of CEO and CNO competitions

The Supervisory Board of JSC NNEGC Energoatom has selected Yurii Tkachuk as the winner of the competition for the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Pavlo Pavlyshyn as the winner of the competition for the position of Chief Nuclear Officer (CNO), following independent competitive selection procedures.

The competitions were held from June to September 2026 with the involvement of international consulting firm Korn Ferry. The selection processes were conducted separately for each position and included an assessment of professional experience and leadership competencies, integrity checks and structured interviews.

As part of the international search for the CEO position, 78 candidates from Ukraine and other countries were considered. Five candidates were shortlisted and presented their strategic vision for Energoatom’s development to the Supervisory Board.

Energoatom to separate CEO and nuclear safety functions

The introduction of two separate executive positions is part of Energoatom’s new corporate governance model.

The CEO will be responsible for the company’s operations, financial performance and strategic development. The CNO, meanwhile, will have separate professional authority over nuclear and radiation safety and the operation of nuclear power units.

Previously, overall company management and the highest level of responsibility for nuclear safety were combined in a single executive role.

According to the Supervisory Board, the new model provides for the independence of the Chief Nuclear Officer and gives the CNO authority to halt decisions or actions that do not comply with established safety requirements.

Who is expected to lead Energoatom

Yurii Tkachuk currently heads JSC Ukrgasvydobuvannya, Ukraine’s largest gas producer. He previously held senior positions at Ukrnafta, including serving as acting CEO and Chief Financial Officer.

Pavlo Pavlyshyn has more than 30 years of experience in the nuclear power sector. He headed Rivne Nuclear Power Plant from 2012 to 2022 and served as acting president of Energoatom for four months in 2019–2020.

Appointments to follow completion of required procedures

The formal appointment of both executives will take place after the completion of all procedures required under Ukrainian law, as well as relevant regulatory and corporate procedures.

To take up the CNO position, Pavlyshyn will also be required to obtain an individual licence in accordance with Ukrainian legislation governing the use of nuclear energy. He previously held such a licence, but it was revoked in 2022. According to the company, the previous revocation does not prevent him from applying for and obtaining a new licence under the established procedure.

Energoatom’s Supervisory Board, together with Korn Ferry and Odgers, is also continuing competitive selection procedures for five additional Management Board members as part of the formation of the company’s renewed executive team.
