Natural gas reserves in Ukrainian UGS facilities exceed 6 bcm
Natural gas reserves in Ukraine's underground gas storage (UGS) facilities exceeded 6 bcm on May 11, ExPro Daily Gas reports.
UGS reserves
Almost 6.02 bcm of natural gas was stored in the storages, and the storages are 19.4% full. Compared to the previous year, the storage facilities hold 31.7% or 2.79 bcm less gas. This year's storage reserves are the lowest as of May 11 for at least the last 11 years.

The active gas reserves in underground storage facilities amount to almost 1.28 bcm. This volume can be withdrawn by customers of storage services.
Gas injection into UGS
Ukraine continues to inject gas into underground storage facilities, and the injection volumes decreased to 26 mcm on May 11. Injection volumes in May 2025 are higher than in May last year. In total, since the beginning of the month, more than 350 mcm of natural gas have been injected into the storages, 33% more than in the same period last year.
Since the beginning of this year's injection season (April 17), 610 mcm of natural gas have been injected into Ukrainian UGS facilities, including 258 mcm in April. As a reminder, this year's injection season started later than in 2024 (March 31) due to colder weather in the first half of April.

Gas reserves at the end of May
According to ExPro estimates, as of the end of May 2025, gas reserves in Ukrainian UGS facilities could reach almost 6.6 bcm with stable natural gas imports of about 14 mcm per day in recent days. In addition, Ukraine continues to gradually restore natural gas production, which was damaged after massive Russian shelling in February-March.
Ukraine continues to actively prepare for the next heating season. As a reminder, at the beginning of November 2024, gas reserves in Ukrainian storage facilities amounted to 12.92 bcm. To achieve similar volumes this year, Ukraine needs to inject 6.3 bcm of natural gas into storage facilities in June-October. Part of these volumes will be covered by domestic production, but about 3-3.5 bcm will need to be imported in June-October 2025.
