Thus, as of September 14, 2025, Ukrainian UGS contained 12.055 bcm of natural gas, while on September 14, 2024, reserves stood at 12.05 bcm, 0.05% or almost 5 mcm less gas. It is expected that the gap will continue to widen in the coming days.

Gas reserves in Ukrainian UGS exceeded last year’s levels

At the beginning of this year’s injection season (April 17), Ukrainian UGS held almost 5.41 bcm of natural gas, 35% or 2.95 bcm less than on April 17, 2024. During the injection season, Ukraine managed to fully eliminate this gap, primarily due to increased imports.

Gas injection into UGS

Since the start of the injection season, almost 6.68 bcm of gas has been injected into Ukrainian UGS – 1.67 times more than in 2024. Also, during 2025, more gas has already been injected into storage than was stored in UGS at the end of the heating season.

In particular, in September 2025, Ukraine injects on average 53.9 mcm of natural gas into storage per day, 2.3 times more than in September 2024. About half of the injected volumes consist of imported resource. The average daily import volume in September is 23.6 mcm, almost entirely provided by state-owned Naftogaz of Ukraine.
