Electricity on the European spot markets already exceeds €600/MWh – a record for 2022

The price indices of electricity in the spot market segments of neighboring European countries (Hungary, Slovakia, Romania) already exceed €600/MWh, reaching record values in 2022.

This is evidenced by the results of trading on the HUPX, Okte, and Opcom exchanges.

The base load index on the "day-ahead" market in Hungary on August 23 reached €616.39/MWh, peak - €640.34/MWh. The hourly price reaches its maximum value at 8 p.m. - almost 795 €/MWh.

Similar indicators are also observed on the day-ahead markets in Slovakia and Romania.

BASE LOAD, PEAK LOAD indices on the spot markets of European countries

According to the data of the Ukrainian Market Operator, on August 23, the index of the base load for DAM in the IPS of Ukraine amounted to UAH 2,727.59/MWh, peak - UAH 2,887.85/MWh.

Also, prices on the futures market are reaching record values ​​- according to EEX, the base load in Slovakia and Hungary with delivery in December 2022 - February 2023 already exceeds €700/MWh, the peak load for the same period is already over 1000 €/MWh.

The reference futures price indicator for Europe is the "base" and "peak" price for the next year, 2023, on the German market.

According to the results of trading on August 19 on EEX, the base load in Germany for 2023 is €559/MWh, peak – €841.9/MWh.

The price of the capacity of the interstate crossing for the export of electricity from Ukraine to Romania and Slovakia remains at a high level. This week, on August 22-24, the minimum price of crossing in the Ukraine-Romania direction was UAH 13,725/MWh, the maximum was UAH 21,059/MWh. In the Ukraine-Slovakia direction, the minimum indicator is UAH 14,430/MWh, the maximum is UAH 20,345/MWh.
