Westinghouse’s fuel reloaded into the 3th unit of South-Ukraine NPP is operated without critical remarks

The nuclear fuel produced by the international engineering company Westinghouse Electric Company and reloaded into the reactor core of the third nuclear fuel of South-Ukraine NPP is operated without critical remarks. The Director of Directorate on Nuclear Facilities Safety of State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine, Mr. Borys Stolarchuk informed about the fact.

«Regarding Westinghouse’s nuclear fuel… The reactor core of the third nuclear unit of South-Ukraine NPP is completely filled up by Westinghouse’s nuclear fuel and operated without critical remarks at the moment», - said Mr. Stolyarchuk.

According to him, the activities in this sphere are performed in accordance with the schedule.

The Head of State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate Grygoriy Plachkov has stated he hopes one more power unit to be fully reloaded by Westinghouse’s fuel this year.

As ExPro reported, at the beginning of February 2019 the General Director of South-Ukraine NPP Volodymyr Lisnichenko stated Energoatom plans to reload the reactor core of the second power unit of mentioned plant by Westinghouse’s nuclear fuel this year.

NNEC Energoatom is the single company in the world managed to diversify nuclear fuel supply for Soviet-designed reactors VVER-1000. At the moment Westinghouse’s nuclear fuel is operated in the power units of South-Ukraine NPP (the 2th, the 3th) and Zaporizhzhya NPP (the 1th, the 3th, the 4th and the 5th).
