The Ukrainian government has dismissed Rostyslav Shurma early from the Supervisory Board of Naftogaz

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, at its meeting on December 29, 2025, decided to early terminate the powers of Rostyslav Shurma as a member of the Supervisory Board of Naftogaz of Ukraine. This was reported by the government’s representative in parliament, Taras Melnychuk.

According to Melnychuk, Shurma was dismissed based on his submitted resignation.

Who is Rostyslav Shurma?

Rostyslav Shurma was elected to the Supervisory Board of Naftogaz on January 24, 2023, as a state representative. From November 23, 2021, Shurma served as Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine.

After being dismissed from the post of Deputy Head of the Office of the President in September 2024, Shurma continued to serve on the Supervisory Board of Naftogaz. According to media reports, after his dismissal, he left Ukraine for Germany.

Shurma’s term on the Supervisory Board of Naftogaz was due to expire on January 20, 2026, but the Cabinet of Ministers dismissed him ahead of schedule.

From July 30, 2012, to November 25, 2019, before his appointment to the Office of the President, Shurma served as CEO of the Zaporizhstal steel plant.

Following Shurma’s dismissal, the Supervisory Board of Naftogaz of Ukraine consists of six members: four independent directors — Anthony Marino, Tor Martin Anfinnsen, Richard Hookway, and Ludo Van der Heyden — and two state representatives, Natalia Boyko and Kostiantyn Marievych.

The mandates of the current Supervisory Board members expire at the end of January 2025. The government has already announced a new competition for four independent seats on the Supervisory Board of Naftogaz, with applications accepted until January 11, 2026.

It is expected that alongside the independent members, the government will also replace the state representatives on the Supervisory Board of Naftogaz.
