In August 2025, Ukraine Exported a Record 450 thsd MWh of electricity

In August 2025, Ukraine increased electricity exports by 60% compared to the previous month – up to 450 thousand MWh, according to preliminary monitoring data from ExPro Electricity.

The largest shares of exports went to Hungary (38%) and Moldova (29%).

In August 2024, there were no electricity exports.

Electricity Trading with Hungary

According to preliminary data, in August 2025 Ukraine exported over 170 thsd. MWh of electricity to Hungary, while imports from this direction amounted to 110 thsd. MWh during the same period. In total, from June to August 2025, electricity exports to Hungary exceeded 380 thsd. MWh, which is 27% more than the volume of imports during this period.

How Did Electricity Imports Change in August 2025?

Electricity imports to Ukraine in August 2025 increased by only 2.5% compared to July – reaching 264 thsd. MWh. Supplies grew across all directions, except from Poland and Slovakia. Hungary continued to account for the largest share in the import structure – 41%. Compared to August of last year, imports decreased by 44%.

Thus, as of the end of August 2025, Ukraine is a net exporter of electricity.
