Gas storage in Ukrainian UGS exceeded 7 bcm
As of June 6, natural gas reserves in Ukraine’s underground gas storage (UGS) facilities exceeded 7 bcm, according to ExPro data. The storage facilities are 22.6% full.
Compared to the same period last year, gas reserves are 25.6% (or 2.4 bcm) lower. This year’s storage levels remain the lowest in at least the past 11 years, although the gap with last year’s level is gradually narrowing.

Gas injection
Gas injection volumes remain higher than last year. During the first week of June, 295 mcm of gas were injected into Ukrainian UGS, nearly twice as much as in the same period last year. Since the beginning of the current injection season (April 17), 1.6 bcm of natural gas have been injected, 20% more than over the same period last year.
As previously reported by ExPro, gas injection in May increased 1.5 times to 1.1 bcm. The average daily injection rate in May stood at 35.5 mcm and reached 42.1 mcm during the first week of June, up 19% compared to May.
On June 7 alone, gas injection into Ukrainian UGS reached 47.4 mcm, the highest daily level in the past 20 months, since October 2023.
To prepare for the upcoming heating season (November 1), Ukraine needs to accumulate at least 12.65 bcm of natural gas in storage. However, to ensure a stable winter season under any scenario, higher storage levels will be required, necessitating an increase in gas imports.
Meanwhile, storage levels in European UGS facilities exceeded 50% at the beginning of June.
