Westinghouse plans $75 billion nuclear power expansion

 American energy company Westinghouse is in talks with the US government to build 10 new nuclear reactors in the country. This is reported by the Financial Times with reference to the acting CEO of Westinghouse Dan Sumner.

According to him, the company intends to take a key position in the implementation of the decree of US President Donald Trump to increase American nuclear power capacity fourfold by 2050 and start construction of 10 new reactors by 2030. The corporation is in talks not only with the government, but also with major industry partners.

Sumner emphasized that Westinghouse has a unique position in the American market, as it has a proven and approved flagship model of the AP1000 reactor, extensive and reliable supply chains, as well as projects currently implemented in the United States.

"The order calls for 10 large nuclear reactors, and we believe we can build them all, which will be AP1000s. Our partners, technology companies, suppliers - all are coming together to calculate how to implement such a project," Sumner added.

According to calculations by the US Department of Energy, building 10 large nuclear reactors could cost $75 billion.
