Unions to resume strikes at Chevron's LNG plants in Australia

The unions said in an official Chevron statement on October 9 that they would resume strikes from next week at both LNG plants after talks on an agreed pay deal fell apart.

The Offshore Alliance has filed a seven-day strike notice at the Gorgon and Wheatstone LNG facilities, according to a spokesman for the union coalition. Unions said that Chevron had rejected a deal previously offered by Australia's industrial arbiter, the Fair Work Commission.

At the end of last week, there were already reports that the strikes could continue, but there was no market reaction. The market reaction was mixed at the time, with prices in Europe rising slightly while spot LNG prices in Asia fell.

Currently, after the confirmation of information about the resumption of strikes, prices have started to rise, as this again poses threats to supplies in the global LNG market and for Europe in particular.
