Ukrenergo almost fully paid its debt for dispatch restrictions in 2022 – SEAU

The operator of the transmission system, Ukrenergo, almost fully paid for the dispatch restrictions of generation from renewable energy sources in 2022. This was announced in a comment for ExPro by the Director of the Solar Energy Association Artem Semenyshyn.

"Ukrenergo has almost fully paid off its debts in 2022 for dispatch restrictions. Even January 2023 is almost settled. The issue that lasted all last year is almost completely resolved. I can say from the industry that this is a positive signal and the accumulated problems are being gradually solved," Semenyshyn said.

According to Semenyshyn, the total debt for dispatch restrictions to the renewable energy sector amounted to about UAH 3 billion.

"To pay off the debt, funds were partially allocated from a loan raised by Ukrenergo to pay off debts on the market," Semenyshyn added. Earlier, ExPro reported that in February 2023, due to favourable weather conditions and a gradual increase in daylight hours, the operation of renewable energy power plants increased, especially during "daytime" hours. In some periods, even dispatch restrictions of "green" generation were applied.

As Artem Semenyshyn previously commented for ExPro, the issue of covering debt under the "green" tariff remains relevant.

According to him, in the renewable energy sector, there are two main problems with debt. These are debts accumulated over the previous year due to the deficit of the tariff for the transfer of Ukrenergo, and the question of how the principles of calculations for the current year, including payment for imbalances, will be settled.
