Ukraine prematurely achieved the goal of accumulating 14.7 bcm of gas in UGS
On September 19, the reserves of natural gas in Ukrainian UGS reached 14.7 bcm, according to the Chairman of the Board of Naftogaz of Ukraine Oleksiy Chernyshov and the Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Galushchenko.
Thus, Ukraine achieved the Government's goal of accumulating 14.7 bcm before the start of the heating season ahead of schedule. It was planned that by November 1, there should be at least 14.7 bcm of gas in the storages.
According to the minister of energy, "such results were achieved thanks to the effective work of the new management of Naftogaz of Ukraine and the coordinated work of all companies in the gas sector - Ukrgazvydobuvannya JSC, Ukrtransgaz JSC and the GTS Operator of Ukraine LLC".
The head of Naftogaz noted that the company continues to increase production and inject gas into storage facilities.
"We are demonstrating the highest rates of drilling in the last 15 years. In 2023, we put 54 new wells into operation, increasing daily production in the country to 52.7 mcm of gas per day," Chernyshov noted.
It was also possible to achieve the goal ahead of schedule due to the fact that foreign and Ukrainian traders have been quite actively pumping natural gas into the "customs warehouse" of Ukrainian UGS since July.
Thus, as of September 19, about 2.6 bcm of natural gas are stored in the "customs warehouse" of Ukrainian storage facilities, including more than 1 bcm of gas that were injected using the short-haul service.
