Ukraine offers European countries more than 10 bcm of capacity in Ukrainian UGS

Ukrainian underground gas storages are the largest in Europe and can help strengthen the EU's energy security. This was announced by the Chairman of the Board of Naftogaz of Ukraine, Oleksiy Chernyshov, at the annual Eurogas conference "A Pathway to Solutions" on March 21, 2023.

"The war demonstrated that energy security is an integral component of national security. Our underground gas storage facilities can support European countries in their strengthening. We are ready to provide our UGS for rent. It is about a volume of more than 10 bcm," said the head of the Naftogaz Group.

The speech also discussed joint projects on gas production in Ukraine with European partners. Chernyshov also held meetings with several companies. According to him, European companies are ready to work together with Ukraine if the EU creates a mechanism of military guarantees.

As a reminder, Ukrtransgaz JSC, which is the operator of Ukrainian gas storages and is part of the Naftogaz Group, officially started the international certification procedure for the safety of gas supply on January 27, 2023.

On March 1, 2023, the NEURC adopted a preliminary decision on the certification of Ukrtransgaz under European rules regarding the safety of natural gas supply and, by the procedure, notified the Secretariat of the Energy Community of its decision.
