Ukraine has begun to withdraw gas from underground storage facilities
On November 7, natural gas withdrawal from Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities exceeded injection for the first time, according to ExPro calculations. Thus, Ukraine has completed the gas injection season to UGS and is gradually entering the withdrawal season from underground storages.
Thus, on November 6, withdrawal and injection almost equalized, and on November 7, gas withdrawal from storages amounted to more than 6 mcm, while there was no injection. During this year's gas injection season, 7.44 bcm of natural gas were injected into underground storage facilities.
As of November 6, according to ExPro calculations, 16.616 bcm of natural gas were stored in Ukrainian gas storage facilities (including 554 mcm of buffer gas). According to the Ministry of Energy and Naftogaz figures, 16.06 bcm of gas were stored in storage facilities (excluding 554 mcm of buffer gas). It will be recalled that by the beginning of the withdrawal season, it was planned to accumulate 14.7 bcm of natural gas in storage facilities. Ukraine achieved this goal on September 19.
This year's gas withdrawal season began on the same day (November 7) as last year. However, 14.665 bcm of natural gas were stored in storage facilities last year, significantly less than this year.
Ukrainian and foreign companies accumulated a significant part of the resource in the "customs warehouse" of the Ukrainian UGS. As of November 5, the "customs warehouse" stored 3.32 bcm of natural gas, the highest level since November 2021. However, reserves in the "customs warehouse" are gradually decreasing, since in recent days the export of gas from the "customs warehouse" exceeds the import to the "customs warehouse".
