There is a need for distributed placement of energy storage units - Ukrenergo
There is a need for distributed placement of energy storage units in the Ukrainian energy system. Maksym Zorin, adviser to the Chair of the Management Board of Ukrenergo, announced this during the online event "Energy storage facilities in the energy system of Ukraine. State and development prospects", held by the UN Global Compact in Ukraine together with ExPro within the framework of Ukraine Energy Initiative.
"We see that there is a need for distributed placement of energy storage facilities throughout Ukraine. Such a layout would be optimal from the standpoint of costs and would also consider the regional needs that exist in the energy system for reliable operation of individual regions," Maksym Zorin pointed out.
Ukrenergo also noted that the company is interested in solving debt issues in the balancing market.
"We all know about the issue of payment delays for balancing electricity. On the part of the Transmission System Operator, we are interested in solving this issue, which eliminates and does not allow for the development of manoeuvrable generation and ESS," Zorin said, adding that the delay in payments in the balancing market also hinders investment in energy storage systems.
According to him, the relevant documents are currently being worked out and Ukrenergo expects changes in the regulatory framework shortly.
"As for the auxiliary services market, from our point of view, there is no debt issue," Zorin adds.
