The head of Gazprom threatened Naftogaz with sanctions for lawsuits

The head of Russia's Gazprom has threatened sanctions against Naftogaz of Ukraine due to international lawsuits that the Ukrainian company is initiating in defense of its interests. According to Miller, the Ukrainian company was not "constructive" in the transit of Russian gas to Europe. Reuters reports this.

Miller also stated that it is "senseless" for Gazprom to participate in lawsuits initiated by Naftogaz.

It will be recalled that Naftogaz announced in June that it was beginning to collect $5 billion from Russia for lost assets in Crimea. The company has already filed a petition in the US District Court for the District of Columbia.

"Naftogaz's far-fetched attempts to continue this legal process speak of its non-constructive attitude towards the organization of the transit of Russian gas to Europe and, in general, of its hostile attitude towards the Russian Federation," Miller said on the air of a Russian TV channel.

Last year, Russia's Gazprom already reduced natural gas supplies to Europe to a multi-year low of 62 bcm. Moreover, the Ukrainian route remains one of the two working routes for Russian gas supplies to Europe.

As reported by ExPro, in the first half of 2023, Russia reduced the volume of natural gas supplies to Europe through the Ukrainian GTS by 1.8 times - to 7 bcm.
