The German government wants to limit the import of Russian LNG

According to a new government document, the German government wants to limit the import of Russian LNG in order to reduce the country's dependence on Russian energy resources, Bloomberg reports.

"The federal government does not support the procurement of Russian LNG," Deputy Energy Minister Patrick Greichen said. The Federal Government also announced that it will take appropriate measures to exclude purchases of Russian LNG if possible.

The German government knows that Russian LNG is arriving at import terminals in Europe, Greichen wrote. But he does not have information about its transportation and consumption among countries and can't estimate how much of it is stored at present.

In the future, companies will be obliged to inform the Commission about the origin of natural gas purchases if their volume exceeds 5 TWh (470 mcm), the document says.
