The Energy Committee agreed to the first reading of the draft law on the completion of KhaNPP-3,4

At the meeting of the Committee on Energy and Housing Affairs, draft law No. 11146 on the completion of units 3 and 4 of the Khmelnytskyi nuclear power plant was approved. The decision was supported by 12 out of 15 deputies during the meeting on Monday, June 17.

The meeting of the committee was attended by Minister of Energy Herman Galushchenko, acting Petro Kotin, President of NNEGC "Energoatom" and Oleg Korikov, Head of the State Atomic Energy Regulatory Commission.

"Regarding the construction of the 3rd and 4th block, this is very important for us. Nuclear energy is the basis of our energy industry, and especially now, when shelling is taking place, heat generation is almost completely destroyed and there are very significant losses in hydropower," said the Minister.

The minister also noted that there is a very strong opposition from the Russian Federation to the implementation of this project: "During the trip of Energoatom specialists, together with the US Ministry of Energy and Westinghouse, to Bulgaria, rallies were organized there, attacks on cars, accordingly, all this was broadcast on Russian channels".

As Galushchenko noted, the decision on the transfer of the two hulls was already accepted by the Bulgarian parliament and the new units will operate immediately on American fuel. The estimated degree of readiness of the third unit of the KhNPP is 75-80%, which makes it possible to calculate the commissioning of the unit within 2.5-3 years, the second - 20-30% with a possible completion period of 4 years. The construction will be implemented in parallel, the implementation of this project can add 1100 MW to the network in a few years.

According to the acting the president of the Energoatom company Petro Kotin, the workers of the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant will be the main human asset in the construction, and the number of workers at the facilities will be increased to 2,000 by the end of the year. It was also stated that the company plans to use its own existing equipment, which it can start installing immediately after the adoption of the law.

Regarding the financing of the project, Kotin noted that they do not yet have final estimates of the budget, taking into account inflation and currency devaluation. Also, there is no final decision on sources of funding yet. The company is expected to use some of its own funds.
