The Cabinet of ministers allowed the export of 100 thousand tons of coal

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has allowed the export of coal in the amount of up to 100 thousand tons, setting the corresponding quota for 2022. Ukraine should supply these volumes to neighbouring Poland.

This was announced by the government's representative in Parliament, Taras Melnychuk.

"Amendments were made to the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 1424 dated 29.12.2021 "On approval of the lists of goods subject to export and import licencing, and quotas for 2022". The appendix "Quota volume for goods subject to export licencing" sets a quota for the export of hard coal, anthracite, briquettes, pellets, and similar solid fuels produced from hard coal (except coking coal) in a volume of 100,000 tons," Melnychuk reports.

Additionally, Melnychuk said that the Appendix "List of goods subject to export licencing" excludes anthracite and notes to the appendix that relate to the licencing of this product.

As previously reported, Ukraine will resume coal exports to Poland. The Cabinet of Ministers considered the possibility of opening quotas.

"On behalf of the President of Ukraine, at the request of the Polish side, Ukraine is ready to consider the possibility of opening quotas for coal exports to Poland. We are talking about 100 thousand tons in September, which our Polish partners essentially need. Coal reserves in our warehouses are almost 2 million tons, which is 2.5 times more than on this date last year. Therefore, we are ready to lend a shoulder of support to our Polish friends," Denys Shmyhal said at a meeting with his Polish counterpart Tomasz Murawiecki.

Moreover, the government pointed out that they are now actively reconstructing the KHNPP-Rzeszow power transmission line, which will increase electricity exports to Poland by 1,000 MW.

"Currently, we export only 300 MW to the European power grid. We are doing everything possible to increase the available capacity in the direction of Slovakia, Romania, and Hungary by another 200-300 MW by the end of 2022, and in the direction of Poland – by more than 1000 MW," Shmyhal said.
