Storing gas in Ukrainian UGS by foreign traders is a sign of high trust in Ukraine - Chernyshov

Underground gas storage facilities managed by Naftogaz Group are the safest place in Ukraine now. The company managed to attract the world's largest players in the energy market and convince them to store gas in Ukrainian gas storage facilities because it is safe, convenient, and profitable.

This was emphasized by the head of the Naftogaz Group Oleksiy Chernyshov in a comment for The Wall Street Journal article "Vital Natural Gas Is Being Stashed in Caverns Beneath War-Torn Ukraine."

According to him, the storage of gas in Ukrainian gas storage facilities by foreign traders can be considered a sign of high trust in Ukraine. The state will in no case consider the selection of this gas, even in the event of a deterioration of the energy situation caused by a full-scale war.

"Traders come to Ukraine without additional insurance, actually accepting risks as commercial. And this is a great signal," stressed Oleksiy Chernyshov in a comment to The Wall Street Journal.

Naftogaz considers all underground gas storage facilities as a single system. Therefore, even if one of the UGS is damaged as a result of hostilities, traders will be able to get their gas from another gas storage facility. And the probability that all Ukrainian UGS will fail and be destroyed is very small.
