SPE Subsurface Conference was held in Kyiv

Kyiv hosted the SPE Eastern Europe Subsurface Conference, an international conference on geology and development arranged by the world's largest professional petroleum community – the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) on the initiative of Naftogaz with the involvement of experts and specialists from the European oil and gas industry.

The main SPE mission is to develop the ability of the oil and gas producing community to meet the world's energy needs in a safe, environmentally responsible, and rational way.

During the event, the need to increase investment in gas production and at the same time implement measures to reduce carbon emissions was repeatedly stressed. It should be noted that the Kyiv section of SPE is a collaboration that is important for the entire oil and gas industry. The Kyiv Section plans monthly technical meetings dedicated to discussing and finding solutions to the current challenges of oil and gas Ukraine. In particular, these are the increase of the efficiency of geological exploration due to new technologies, including digitalisation and machine learning, production optimisation by improving geological and technical measures, and acceleration of field development. For this purpose, the use of new approaches, such as horizontal drilling, multi-stage hydraulic fracturing, and others, is planned. The next meeting of the Kyiv SPE section will be held in early December.
