Slovakia's SPP has signed a contract to import Norwegian gas to replace Russian gas

The Slovak state-owned company Slovenský plynárenský priemysel (SPP) has signed an agreement to import Norwegian natural gas. This was announced by the Minister of Economy of Slovakia Richard Sulik.

Deliveries under the contract are scheduled for the end of 2023 and will begin in June 2022. The supplies will cover 32% of Slovakia's annual natural gas consumption, reducing dependence on Russian imports by 65%.

"Yesterday, SPP signed a contract for the supply of Norwegian gas until the end of next year, which covers 32% of consumption, and also signed a contract for the supply of LNG gas," said Sulik.

According to the Minister, the SPP can also receive LNG in Croatia, Belgium, Italy and England, which will allow one or two LNG tankers to be pumped and fed into the pipelines every month.

Sulik also added that Slovakia would reduce its dependence on Russian gas by 65% from the beginning of June. "This is the maximum that could be achieved now. We are working on other options that are available, but they are more complex. At the same time, we also buy gas from Russia in full, "Sulik stressed.
