Russia transported about 1.3 bcm of gas via the Ukrainian GTS in August

In August 2022, Russian Gazprom transported about 1.3 bcm of natural gas to Europe via the Ukrainian GTS, which is 0.5% (7 mcm) more than in July 2022. This is evidenced by the operational data of GTS Operator of Ukraine LLC.

Compared to August last year, the volume of transit of Russian gas through Ukraine fell three times - from 3.9 bcm last year to 1.3 bcm. Thus, Gazprom used only 39% of the reserved capacities (3.29 bcm) under the long-term contract.

In August, Russia transported gas through Ukraine to two countries (out of 5 possible) - Slovakia (1.13 bcm) and Moldova (159 mcm).

In general, during the first 8 months of 2022, Gazprom transported 14.9 bcm of natural gas via the Ukrainian GTS, which is two times less than last year. In total, the long-term contract provides for the transit of 40 bcm in 2022.

At the same time, Gazprom stopped Nord Stream 1 for three days starting today. Market participants fear that Russia may not resume supplies after the end of the announced shutdown. There is a high probability that supply will not be fully restored after the shutdown.
