QatarEnergy and Shell have signed a 27-year agreement to supply LNG to Europe

Qatar reached an agreement with the Netherlands to supply 3.5 million tons of LNG (4.8 bcm) per year for 27 years. Two LNG sales agreements were signed between subsidiaries QatarEnergy and Shell.

Qatari LNG from the large-scale production expansion project at the North field will be delivered to the Gate LNG terminal in the Port of Rotterdam starting in 2026.

The corresponding volumes will come from two joint ventures between QatarEnergy and Shell, which have stakes in Qatar's North Field East (NFE) and North Field South (NFS) expansion projects, QatarEnergy said. Shell holds a 6.25% interest in the NFE project and a 9.375% interest in the NFS project.

An identical deal was signed between QatarEnergy and TotalEnergies last week in what was at the time Qatar's largest and longest gas deal to Europe.

Earlier, Qatar signed similar agreements with Asian buyers. Asian deals include a 27-year agreement to supply 4 million tonnes of LNG (5.5 bcm) per year with China's Sinopec and an identical deal signed with China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC).
