President signs law to open biomethane exports

The President of Ukraine has signed the Law of Ukraine “On Amendments to the Customs Code of Ukraine on Customs Clearance of Biomethane” (No. 3613-IX, Draft Law No. 9456). This is stated on the website of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

From now on, the customs clearance of biomethane transported by pipeline is carried out in the manner prescribed for natural gas. This means that the customs procedures currently applied to natural gas will apply to biomethane.

In order to export biomethane from Ukraine, biomethane producers must be registered in the biomethane register and be connected to a gas transmission or gas distribution system using an automatic flow instrument (automatic chromatograph) and a gas metering unit.

For the period of the ban on the export of natural gas of Ukrainian origin, the export of biomethane transported by pipeline may be carried out exclusively in respect of the volumes of biomethane accumulated in Ukrainian gas storage facilities at the end of the month preceding the month of export.
