Orlen opens Poland's first offshore wind farm cargo terminal

Orlen Neptun, part of the Orlen Group, has launched an offshore wind farm assembly terminal in Świnoujście. It is the first facility of its kind in Poland and one of the most modern in Europe.

Orlen Neptun has signed its first long-term contract with the Spanish-French consortium Ocean Winds, one of the largest offshore project developers in the world.

The terminal in Świnoujście will eventually allow the installation of several dozen wind turbines per year, becoming the most important center for the assembly of offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea region. The facility will also be available to other operators investing in German, Swedish or Danish waters.

“The installation terminal in Świnoujście is our next groundbreaking investment in offshore wind energy in Poland. We are building a new, promising sector of the economy. Offshore wind energy will not only provide households, transport and businesses with clean and stable energy, but will also allow the development of new industries. It is from the base in Świnoujście that we will implement further offshore projects, in which the share of Polish capital will be almost half. We have already signed a contract with one of the world leaders, Ocean Winds, and agreements that will allow us to use the existing infrastructure for storing wind turbine components. Our investment is a great development opportunity for the entire region and Polish companies serving offshore wind energy,” says Ireneusz Fąfara, Chairman of the Board of Orlen.

The terminal was designed to receive the largest vessels intended for the implementation of offshore wind power projects with turbines with a capacity of about 15 MW. The terminal allows for the unloading, loading and storage of elements used in the construction of wind farms.

In addition, the terminal infrastructure allows for the reception of superstructures of offshore substations weighing up to 24 thousand tons.

The agreement concluded by Orlen Neptun with the Spanish-French consortium Ocean Winds provides for the lease of almost the entire area of the terminal. It will be used for the implementation of the BC-Wind offshore wind farm project, located approximately 150 nautical miles, or about 228 kilometers, from the port of Świnoujście.
