NEURC finally certified Ukrtransgaz as a gas storage operator

At a meeting on April 7, the National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Utilities (NEURC) made a final decision regarding the certification of Ukrtransgaz JSC (UTG) as a gas storage operator.

One may remind that on March 1, the NEURC made a preliminary decision on the certification of UTG as a gas storage operator, as all documents were submitted on time and did not contradict the certification requirements.

On March 3, NEURC informed the Secretariat of the Energy Community about the preliminary certification of UTG and provided all documents and information related to this decision.

On March 31, the Secretariat of the Energy Community adopted opinion No. 1/23 to the preliminary decision of the NEURC on certification, according to which Ukrtransgaz complies with the provisions of Article 3a (6) of Regulation (EU) No. 715/2009 of July 13, 2009, and can be certified as a gas storage operator.

Considering this, the NEURC made a final decision on the certification of Ukrtransgaz as a gas storage operator at a meeting on April 7.

"This is a significant event for our company and all of Ukraine. This opens opportunities for us to store gas not only of European companies but also of countries, particularly those that do not have their own gas storage facilities," commented the acting CEO of UTG Roman Malyutin.

According to Malyutin, Ukrtransgaz became the second UGS operator in Europe, which passed the certification according to the new European rules.
