NEURC certified Ukrenergo as the European transmission system operator

The National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission certified PJSC NPC Ukrenergo finally as the European transmission system operator in accordance with the ISO model. The corresponding decision was made at the commission meeting on December, 17.

“Today, on December 17, the NEURC certified NPC Ukrenergo as the European transmission system operator in accordance with the ISO model. The Energy Community Secretariat affirmed the accordance of the decision with the Third Energy Package”, - Ukrenergo announced.

According to Ukrenergo’s information, the certification of Ukrainian TSO is the key precondition on the way of getting ENTSO-E membership. The certificate affirms the TSO’s independence from electricity generation and supply.

“In the near future, NPC Ukrenergo will apply for observer membership at ENTSO-E. In particular, this status will allow the company to participate in the meetings of ENTSO-E Regional Group Continental Europe. Our representatives will also be able to join ENTSO-E working and expert groups dealing with electricity market development, balancing, ancillary services, electronic data exchange, RES integration, etc. This means that before the transition to parallel operation with the European grid, Ukrenergo will have the opportunity to become involved in the development of ENTSO-E internal policies,” said Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, CEO of Ukrenergo.

The members of the NEURC noted that Ukrenergo will have to perform a number of obligations for providing the TSO’s full independence. In addition, at the meeting, Ukrenergo got the new electricity transmission license.
