Natural gas consumption in Ukraine in 2023 will be less than 20 bcm - Chernyshov

Natural gas consumption in Ukraine in 2023 is expected to be less than 20 bcm from about 27 bcm in pre-war 2021. This was announced by the Chairman of the Board of Naftogaz of Ukraine Oleksiy Chernyshov in an interview with Reuters. Chernyshov's forecasts also confirm ExPro's calculations.

According to Chernyshov, it is expected that by the beginning of the heating season, gas reserves in Ukrainian UGS will exceed 16 bcm, which will be enough to get through the winter period.

According to Naftogaz, the main part of the gas is consumed by householders, as well as by producers of heat for householders - about 11 bcm. In 2023, the industry will consume about 4 bcm, and the rest of the gas (about 5 bcm) will go to the production of electricity.
