Naftogaz hired American lawyers for $7 million to sue Russia over seized assets in Crimea

On December 30, Naftogaz of Ukraine NJSC ordered legal services for $7 million from the international legal company Covington & Burling LLP (USA) without bidding. Previously, they were also ordered without bidding, through negotiations. This is reported by Nashi Groshi with reference to Prozorro.

In 2023, the company will represent the interests of Naftogaz during the settlement of disputes related to the loss or inability of Naftogaz to use its property and its non-receipt of income in the occupied Crimea. Probably, Naftogaz plans to return part of the lost assets in Crimea in international arbitrations.

Since 2017, Naftogaz has entered into agreements with this company on representation in a dispute with Russia regarding property in the occupied Crimea for $48 million. Back in 2021, it ordered legal services from it regarding a possible arbitration with Slovakia for seized gas for €3 million.
