Naftogaz engaged the American company Covington & Burling to collect $5 billion from Russia

The leading American law firm Covington & Burling LLP has presented to Naftogaz of Ukraine a strategy to forcibly recover $5 billion in compensation from Russia for the seizure of Naftogaz Group assets in Crimea, Naftogaz Chairman Oleksiy Chernyshov said on the first day of his working visit to Washington.

"Naftogaz does not expect voluntary compensation from the Russian Federation. Instead, the company is working with legal industry partners to explore all legal mechanisms available to recognize and enforce the recent arbitration award. We cannot disclose any details, but we have a clear strategy: we are working on all possible ways to enforce compensation right now," Chernyshov said.

He also assured that he would make every effort to implement the decision made in The Hague.
