NACBU reported suspicion to former and current NEURC officials in the Rotterdam+ case

The Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau reported suspicion to 15 persons, including former and current NEURC officials, who were involved in the approval of the Rotterdam+ formula.

According to SAP, the investigation believes that the Rotterdam+ formula included the cost of services that were not performed – the transportation of coal from the national producer to thermal power plants from the port in Rotterdam.

Thus, during 2016-2019, electricity consumers overpaid more than UAH 39 billion.

"During the investigation of this fact, it turned out that representatives of a group of private heat-generating companies persuaded certain NEURC members to adopt such a calculation formula, which resulted in super-profits. At the same time, other NEURC members improperly fulfilled their official duties due to improper attitude and voted for the approval of the so-called Rotterdam+ formula, which further entailed adverse consequences for the state and public interests," the anti-corruption bodies said in a statement.

As of today, suspicion has been reported to two former NEURC heads; six former and three current NEURC members; current and former employees of the Commission, as well as current and former officials of the private heat-generating companies. Recall that the investigation believes that through the Rotterdam+ formula, electricity consumers in 2018-2019 illegally overpaid more than UAH 20 billion.

NEURC has already declared its readiness to cooperate with the investigation of the Rotterdam+ case.

"NEURC cooperates with the investigation, provides all the necessary materials, and is ready to contribute in every possible way to a professional and impartial investigation. The Regulator hopes that this investigation will not result in compromising innocent persons and that the investigation materials will comply with the current legislation," NEURC reports.
