Moldova to buy LNG from the US for the first time

Moldova will buy LNG from the United States for the first time next week, Energy Minister Victor Parlicov told Jurnal TV. The LNG tanker will arrive at the Greek terminal Alexandroupolis next week.

In early January, Parlicov said that Moldova continues to diversify its gas supply sources and plans to use sea routes for gas supplies for the first time.

"Next week, we will buy gas directly from a ship carrying LNG from the United States. I cannot say at what price right now. There is no final confirmation yet. But the price will be lower than the TTF level - about €30/MWh," Parlikov said.

According to Parlikov, as of the beginning of 2024, Moldova's gas reserves amounted to less than 400 mcm, which will be enough until the end of March. Moldova stores natural gas in Ukrainian and Romanian UGS facilities.
