Long-term auctions for the intersection for Ukraine are expected to be launched soon
Long-term auctions for the allocation of capacity at interstate intersections are expected to be launched soon - this year they will start for several directions. This was stated by the Acting Chairman of the Board of NPC Ukrenergo Oleksii Brecht during the Energy Day 2025 event, which was organized by the EBA.

“The goal that we are pursuing in this case, and what consumers want to see both from our side and from the other side, is a certain long-term predictability,” says Oleksii Brecht.
As Oleksii Brecht notes, long-term auctions for the intersection will make it possible to saturate the corresponding intersection more, minimize or optimize the cost of electricity, provide guarantees and predictability.
“From the beginning of July, JAO will be engaged in our auctions,” Brecht notes in a comment for ExPro.
Ukrenergo expects that monthly auctions will be launched this year for Slovakia and Romania. There is no talk of launching annual auctions yet, Brecht notes.
“Unfortunately, our partners have not yet agreed on annual ones,” the head of Ukrenergo comments.
According to ExPro, currently the capacity of interstate intersections is allocated exclusively at daily auctions, which reduces the predictability of electricity imports and exports. For the Slovak, Hungarian and Polish directions, auctions are held on the European JAO platform. For Romania and Moldova - on the Ukrenergo EAP platform.
