In Poland, the country's largest gas-fired power plant was put into operation

The Polish state-owned company Polska Grupa Energetyczna commissioned the largest gas-fired power plant in Poland and one of the most modern in Europe with a capacity of 1,366 MW. This was reported in PGE.

As the company noted, the commissioned power plant will produce enough electricity to meet 5% of national demand. This investment will "strengthen Poland's energy security and ensure a stable energy supply for more than 3 million households," said Dariusz Marzek, CEO of PGE, at the launch ceremony.

The capacity of the new power plant has a 17-year contract in the capacity market auction, which is valid from 2024. The investment worth more than PLN 3.7 billion net was realized by the PGE group. The executor of the contract is a consortium of companies, which includes GE Vernova (the leader of the consortium) and Polimex Mostostal.

The power plant "was designed to meet the most stringent emission limits," PGE said.

The Polish government has committed itself to a strategy of phasing out the use of coal and reducing emissions, in particular through the development of renewable and nuclear energy. However, the first nuclear power plant is scheduled to be put into operation no earlier than 2035, so gas generation plays an important role.
