In January, Ukraine reduced electricity imports by almost 50%

In January 2024, Ukraine imported a total of 122,831 MWh, which is 48% less than the volume of December 2023, according to ExPro Electricity Daily. 

Electricity exports in January were at a low level and took place only for a few days at the beginning of the month. But compared to December 2023, export volumes increased 24 times - to 5223 MWh. At the same time, compared to January 2023, the import of electricity in the first month of 2024 almost doubled - from 62.4 thousand MWh to 122.8 thousand MWh. There was no electricity export in January 2023.

Since the beginning of 2024, most imported electricity came from Slovakia, 49.7% of all imports. Another 33% came from Romania, 12.9% from Poland and the rest from Moldova. Exports took place only during January 2-6. Most, 53.5% - to Romania.

We will remind you that in 2023 Ukraine imported 806.4 thousand MWh and exported 366.1 thousand MWh in 2023.
