Gazprom to cut off gas supplies on June 1, 2022 to Shell in Germany and to Orsted in Denmark

Gazprom Export (a subsidiary of Russia's Gazprom) announced on this Tuesday evening that it had cut off supplies of Russian natural gas to Shell Energy Europe located in Germany, and to Orsted located om to Denmark. This was reported by Gazprom's press service.

According to Gazprom, as of the end of the business day on May 3, 2022 (deadline for switch to payment in rubles), the company had not received payment in rubles from Shell Energy Europe and Orsted, due to which supplies were suspended. In addition, both companies told Gazprom that they would not pay for gas in rubles.

The maximum annual volume of natural gas supplies to Germany for Shell Energy Europe under the contract is 1.2 bcm.

One may remember that on May 31, 2022, Gazprom stopped supplying natural gas to Gasterra in the Netherlands. Prior to that, supplies were also suspended to Finland, Bulgaria, and Poland. The reasons are the refusal to pay in rubles for the natural gas from Russia.
