Gas injection in Ukraine hits record high since 2023 – 55.6 mcm per day

Natural gas injection into Ukrainian underground gas storage (UGS) facilities increased by almost 10% on July 1, reaching 55.6 mcm, the highest daily level since September 2023, according to GIE data, as reported by ExPro.

Ukraine continues to ramp up natural gas injection into storage as part of preparations for the next heating season. The increase in injection volumes in early July is related to the growing imports of natural gas to Ukraine. As previously reported by ExPro, gas imports have increased by 40% since the beginning of July, reaching 26.7 mcm.

In June, 1.35 bcm of natural gas was injected into Ukrainian storage facilities, 1.8 times more than in June last year. The average daily injection volume in June reached almost 45 mcm, with more than 50 mcm injected on the last day of the month for the first time this year.

If the current injection pace remains stable, Ukraine may accumulate an additional 1.7 bcm of natural gas in storage during the month, bringing total UGS reserves close to 10 bcm by early August.
