Foreign companies store 2.4 bcm of gas in Ukrainian gas storage facilities

As of mid-October, foreign companies are storing 2.4 bcm of natural gas in Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities. This is reported by the GTS Operator of Ukraine LLC (GTSOU).

"The order of capacities by European traders is the result of the work carried out on the certification of UGS according to European standards. This activity testifies to the complete integration of the Ukrainian gas infrastructure into the European one. This is an important step on the way to creating an energy hub in Ukraine and ridding Europe of its dependence on Russian gas," noted Energy Minister of Ukraine Herman Galushchenko.

Foreign companies store gas in the "customs warehouse" regime, which allows gas not to be cleared through customs for 1,095 days. In general, 3.17 bcm of natural gas is stored in the "customs warehouse" mode of Ukrainian gas storage facilities, according to ExPro calculations.

According to the GTSOU, from April to October 2023, during the period of gas injection to underground storages, more than 3 bcm of natural ore from the EU and Moldova were transported to Ukraine. This is 7 times more than the volume of transported gas in the same period last year (more than 414 mcm).

According to ExPro calculations, from January to October 15, 2023, gas imports to Ukraine amounted to more than 4.1 bcm, which is 4 times more than in the same period last year (almost 970 mcm).
