European Commission proposes new sanctions against Russian LNG

In the next package of sanctions, the European Commission will for the first time propose restrictions on Russian LNG, including a ban on transshipment in EU ports and restrictive measures on three Russian LNG projects.

According to Reuters, the Commission is in the final stages of finalizing its proposal and is holding informal talks with member states this week.

The proposal would not prohibit direct imports of LNG to Europe, but instead would focus on transshipment from one ship to another, which then sails to its destination.

Another proposed measure would be to impose sanctions on three Russian LNG projects - Arctic LNG 2, Ust-Luga and Murmansk - that have not yet been launched.
