Energoatom plans to start loading spent nuclear fuel into CSFSF in June 2021
In June 2021, the NNEGC Energoatom plans to start loading spent nuclear fuel into the Central Spent Fuel Storage Facility (CSFSF) after the completion of the Vilcha-Yaniv railway track.
That was announced on April 13, 2021, by Petro Kotin, Acting President of the NNEGC Energoatom.
"In the near future, the Chernobyl-based CSFSF will be put into operation. This will allow us to receive spent fuel from three nuclear power plants right in June 2021 [from the Rivne NNP, the Khmelnytskyi NPP, and the South-Ukraine NPP - Ed.], an once it’s done, we will be saving about $ 200 million every year," said Kotin.
According to Kotin, the NEEGC Energoatom's engineering and construction divisions are actively preparing for laying the Vilcha-Yaniv railway track section, and the Ukrainian Railway’s specialists will soon start laying a new railway track to the site of the CSFSF.
