Denmark may be left without Russian gas for refusing to pay in rubles

Denmark could be the next country to which Russia will cut off natural gas supplies, as Orsted, the country's largest energy company, refuses to comply with Russia's demands to pay for gas in rubles.

Orsted is preparing for shutdowns, the company said on this Monday, adding that it will be able to provide alternative supplies to the European spot market. The payment deadline is Tuesday (May 31, 2022) and the company will continue to pay in €, the statement said. In the event of a shutdown, Denmark will join Poland, Bulgaria, and Finland, to which Russia has previously cut off gas supplies.
