Bursa Română de Mărfuri becomes the second NEMO in Romania
The Romanian exchange Bursa Română de Mărfuri announced the integration of its trading platform into the European Union’s single day-ahead market (SDAC), thus marking the start of its operations as the second nominated market operator (NEMO) in Romania.
“This success is the result of close cooperation over two years between the BRM team and experts from Nord Pool, one of the most important power exchange operators at European level, who supported the development of efficient trading mechanisms that are safe, transparent and adapted to the requirements of the constantly integrating European market,” BRM said.
“It is an extraordinary achievement to see how the joint efforts of the BRM team and our partners from Nord Pool lead to a tangible result, which is an additional argument for the Romanian energy market to become a regional hub. Integration into SDAC brings significant benefits to market participants, reducing transaction costs and increasing liquidity, contributing to a more competitive and, above all, more transparent national energy market,” said Gabriel Puris, President of the Board of Directors of BRM.
SDAC for Romania
Working within the single market includes the following benefits for Romania:
- increasing liquidity and competitiveness by attracting new market participants and providing the right price signals to encourage investments in modern, renewable or low-carbon generation capacities;
- reducing price volatility by increasing flexibility in responding to market fluctuations;
- promoting transaction transparency and contributing to increasing national energy security by developing a sustainable, predictable and fair trading environment.
The Romanian Exchange, Bursa Română de Mărfuri, is the oldest commodity exchange operator in Romania, offering innovative trading solutions on national core markets since 1993. BRM also operates through BRM East Energy, a natural gas trading market in the Republic of Moldova.
